A genuine pleasure to read

I have read a lot of books on this subject and this is the clearest.

I came to this book already familiar with the basics, and it still had plenty to offer. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. The balance between theory and practice is well judged; neither side dominates. An easy five stars from me. I look forward to whatever the author writes next.

A worthwhile read

Good book. The writing is direct and the author is honest about limits.

There is a particular kind of technical book that is dense without being difficult, and this is one of them. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The author clearly knows the subject deeply and has thought hard about how to teach it. Four stars, and I suspect a second edition could easily push it to five.

Outstanding introduction

I have read a lot of books on this subject and this is the clearest.

I had been on the fence about this one for a while, and I should have bought it sooner. A few of the examples could be more realistic, but the underlying points come across clearly. The index and cross-references are surprisingly good, which matters for a book I will come back to. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. If you have the prerequisites, this is an easy recommendation. I will be keeping it on my desk rather than the shelf.

Good, but not for absolute beginners

Strong content, uneven pacing. I would still recommend it.

This is the third book I have read on ai & machine learning this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The chapters on ai & machine learning are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. Set realistic expectations and you will get a lot out of it.

Strong content, uneven pacing

An enjoyable and informative read, though it could have been shorter.

This is the third book I have read on 3d graphics this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. The book rewards careful reading. Skimming it would be a mistake. Solid, and I would buy another book from this author without hesitation.

A superb guide

Finally, a book that treats javascript with the care it deserves.

I came to this book already familiar with the basics, and it still had plenty to offer. The author is unusually honest about where the simplifications break down, which I appreciated.
