Solid and well-organised

A useful guide. The examples assume a particular environment, but that is fixable.

This is the third book I have read on graphics this year, and it is comfortably the best of them. Some of the material is available elsewhere, but rarely presented this clearly. I appreciated the honesty about what the book does not cover — it saved me from expecting things that were not there. The progression from chapter to chapter is well thought out; nothing feels out of order. A good addition to a technical library, as long as you know what you are buying.

Disappointing

Not for me. The pacing did not work and I struggled to finish it.

There is a particular kind of technical book that is dense without being difficult, and this is one of them. It is denser than the page count suggests, and I found myself slowing down around the middle. The explanations are careful without being condescending, which is a difficult balance to strike. The writing is direct and does not waste space on filler, which I value in a technical book. Not one I will be returning to. There are better introductions to graphics available.

Highly recommended

Excellent from start to finish. No filler, no padding.

I have been working with graphics for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. Some terminology is introduced without much ceremony; I had to look a few things up along the way. Worth the money and the reading time, without hesitation.
